I did go to Metz, on the Utopia Travel flights from Stansted.
Blinding day/night, lovely quiet French town where most of population didn't even seem to know that had a football team and we're bemused to find 100's of West Ham fans drinking in the main square.
My only slight regret was we were in the seats down the side although I was right at the front.

Croe - I stand corrected then.
I would have thought that we would have played more than 5 friendlies in any normal season.
Still think we need to treat the Europa league as a bonus comp this year until we get to the group stages.

Yep that rule is right, you can have as many u21s as you like and don't need to register them until 24 hours before the game.
So I would be stunned if your information was 100%

Why would we register a whole bunch of U21 players four days after the season ends if we can use them in a B list up to 24 hours before the games?

Doesn't really replace friendlies does it? We've arranged 5 friendlies for the first team alongside Europe because you can only make 3 changes we have 8 players that are going to have to play 90 minutes where as they would generally play no more than 45 minutes for the first couple of pre-season games.
Still it didn't do much harm when we won the Intertoto cup and that was the same sort of format.

Don't know rules mate, all I know is the day before I posted that comment all U21s were registered. Of course manager wasn't appointed then.
When I say all U21s I mean even Westley and he is shite!
But as you say there isnt a huge amount so I'm sure it will be supplemented with some fringe players.

The qualifying rounds will, in general, replace the pre season friendlies we would normally have.
To some extent that's exactly how we need to approach the qualifying rounds I.e. like they are friendlies in terms of team selection etc.
Imo there's no way in our situation (bearing in mind how many games we will have to play if we make the league stages) we can approach them in any other way.

Seems to me the rules are 25 players
PLUS a B List that can contain as many u21 players that have been registered with the club for at least two season and that list can be submitted 24 hours before the game.

Entire U21 squad been registered for round 1. Not 100% how many that is but with 25 allowed in the Europa squad it will only leave space for a few first teamers.
Only two weeks late Croe ;)
